Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"In all subjectivity, one of the best, simply. The price, the food, the quantity and the service! I would not go for the dim sum as I’m pretty sure they’re industrial but I would recommend the Khao soi and the fried rice without an ounce of hesitation. The staff is not the most smiling one but they are very responsive to our demands eventhough they don’t necessarily understand English. Bref, je recommande fortement!"
"We went in here for dim sum. Also tried khao Soi for the first time. Best curry I’ve ever had. I’ve been back three times. I love this place. It’s always packed. The waitresses always are kind enough to help us fill out our order given we only know English. Everything about is worth your visit."
"I love this place, I like Khao Soi and their congee and rice soup I think. They really have a huge portion that even I as a big eater struggle to finish. For the service, they are fast to serve but take time to order. When we arrived, it was really crowded and I have to sit for a while until they give me menu. But if you can read Thai, you can order it yourself, it’s much easier. I would like to visit this again. I forgot to mention that they also have good dim sum. Every menu is delicious. Try this out if you are in Chaing Mai"
"Jok Somphet is locally famous for several good reasons. The food is very tasty, there's nice variety on the menu, and prices are low. My children loved the sarapao (bao buns) with red pork and the ones with yellow custard/cream. I had the chicken Khao Soy, the broth is excellent and slightly creamier than other restaurants. I'd also recommend the Hang Lay curry -- a northern Thai pork curry. Their version is one of the tastier ones I've had. Absolutely authentic food with great prices. Highly recommended."
"Good food, excellent attentive and polite services. Good choice of food, bakery and drinks. Recommended Day 1: Chicken with fried noodles in a gravy. Day 2: Chicken thigh with fried noodles and egg noodles in a curry sauce. Scale 1-10: Food-8 Price-9 Service-10 Atmosphere-7 Cleanliness-7"
"Conveniently located next door to my hotel. I came here every day for breakfast. I loved the congee (pork ball & egg was my favourite), and the various dim sum. Seemed to be very popular place for students. and it all felt very Thai/Chinese. Not at all expensive. Simple but excellent value."
"They have a vegetable jok that's super delicious, especially with a couple of eggs as loaded up with chilis. English here is very limited, so I haven't been able to confirm whether the stock in the vegetable jok is vegetarian or not, but it's the only jok spot I've found that has an option without meat. They'll come over and fill out your order slip for you if you point at things on the menu. I did order a coffee on my last trip and didn't have high expectations, but it was really good. At least as good as places that do coffee exclusively. And to boot, it's one of the few places other than 7-Eleven that you can hit up 24 hours a day."
"Fast and attentive service. Great value for delicious meals. Unfortunately, found a hair in my congee the last time I visited, hence the 4-star review. Their dim sum selection is tasty and for 30 baht for 3 pieces, you can’t beat the price."
